"Delights in experimenting with different art materials"

Ros Bieber

In my early life I was a concert pianist and harpsichordist; however, my career was cut short due to injury. I then became interested in painting and studied at the City and Guilds of London Art School for four years, where I was awarded a Diploma in Painting and an Arts Council prize in my second year.

I have explored many themes and found delight in experimenting with different art materials. Being fascinated by people, I made a series The Poetry of Everyday, using images from street life and finding poetry in the small dramas of everyday.

A few years ago, I made a series around the idea of fragments: traces of things left behind, the idea that nothing in fact dies as DNA is carried on through the ages.

I have come to love animals through drawing them, rather than the other way round. The tensions, the shapes they make and their gestures, being wild, are totally pure.
