"... expressing the joy I find in the natural world"

Kath Wallace

I enjoy working on any scale on canvas, paper or wooden board. My paintings are inspired by memories of places, times or experiences using photographs, collage, or drawings as a starting point. I incorporate textures from wax, sand, paper and juxtapose different materials to accentuate contrast, balance or shape or focus on a detail.

In the last few years my work has been about expressing the joy I find in the natural world, local landscapes and my garden. Recently I have become interested in flowers in interior settings which bring to the fore simple objects that have strong resonance for me such as vases, fabrics or shapes I remember from my childhood.

I am thrilled to be part of a show at the Beautiful Bell Gallery with two HWAT colleagues Di McKenna and Val Lindsell to share our paintings, drawings and prints inspired by local landscapes and coloured by life experiences and memories.   Current themes in our work gave us the title Borderlands and Traces.
