"... inspired by the sounds, colours, texture of nature"
Wiebke Clarke
Wiebke Clarke, (studied at the Open College of the Arts, St. Yves School of Painting.)
My artistic journey over the last decade has had all the characteristics of a child’s trip to the sweet shop. From delirious excitement on entering and on every new discovery, to strenuous efforts to ‘do the right thing’, waisted efforts to control my inner child. It has been a joyous journey of self discovery and experimentation with a variety of media, techniques, and processes. Not surprisingly, this results in a number of very varied outcomes.
I am inspired by the sounds, colours, texture of nature which I observe and record as sketches or with my camera. I aspire to record the visceral experience of a place or object, ‘the way it makes me feel’.
The long list of artists whose work has inspired me includes Franz Marc, Emil Nolde, Paul Klee, Gustav Klimt, Ithell Colquhoun, Mark Rothko, Daniel Zeller, Gabriele Münster.
