"... to capture the spirit of the subject"

Bobbie Watchorn

In earlier periods of her life Bobbie has painted, drawn and also sculpted, but not in the formal sense. When she had small children she ran a novelty cake business designing and making unique bakes, she enjoyed putting together unusual and edible fantasies!

Bobbie is mainly self-taught with a few life and portrait classes over the years, she has spent time with ceramicists and sculptors Brendon Hesmondhalgh and David Cooke in Yorkshire.

She has lived most of her life in the countryside, and spends a lot of her time enjoying nature. She often finds that little something quirky, amusing, or characterful that strikes her and she wants to capture it in form.

Bobbie has learnt that she can express herself most freely with the three dimensional image. She works mainly in clay and wax and will often do several “sketch pieces” to see what seems to work from all angles, as it is essential that sculptures work from every angle.

Bobbie has developed a portfolio of work of both ceramic individual pieces and limited edition cold cast bronzes.

Bobbie says “I try to capture the spirit of the subject without always portraying it in a totally literal sense. I hope that my work conveys a mixture of the essence of the subject and a little bit of me!”
